A ten-day, intensive exchange focused on sniper and small-unit tactics in demanding winter mountain environments. Conducted on the rugged western Norwegian mountain shooting ranges, the course blends advanced marksmanship, cold-weather mobility and mountaineering, and tactical integration.

Who should attend

Experienced snipers and spotters seeking to expand capability in mountain winter environments and extreme long-range engagement. This course is for personell employed by a government agency from a NATO country (and selected NATO global partners: Australia, New Zealand, Japan or South Korea). 

 

Outcomes

Participants will return with improved cold-weather mobility skills, enhanced long-range precision under complex environmental conditions, stronger team integration techniques, and lasting professional connections within an international specialist network. 




Course highlights & training modules


  • Winter mobility with snowmobile operations — safe, rapid movement and team employment across snow-covered terrain.

  • Avalanche awareness & safety — terrain assessment, rescue techniques and risk mitigation for mountain operations.

  • Mountain sniper operations — long-range precision shooting from alpine positions in complex terrain.

  • Difficult wind and meteorological conditions — reading microclimates and compensating for highly variable winds.

  • Extreme long-range engagements (up to 2000 m) — solutions for shot planning, holdovers and confirmation at extreme distances.

  • External ballistics — data capture and applying ballistic solutions in the field.

  • Cross-valley shooting & angle shooting — target geometry, line-of-sight, and ballistics corrections for lateral and vertical engagements.

  • Tactical small-unit integration — employment of sniper teams within broader maneuver elements under winter conditions.

  • International sniper networking — structured opportunities for knowledge exchange, lessons learned, and building cross-national professional links in a specialist community.
