The GOAST Truing Bar (30x95 cm) is a purpose-built target designed specifically for the Applied Ballistics® Kestrel® truing process, including both Cal MV and Cal DSF.
Mounted horizontally, the target provides 95 cm of width to accommodate normal wind drift while limiting the shooter to just 30 cm of vertical height. This forces a high-quality vertical group, allowing the shooter to evaluate what truly matters during truing - whether the ballistic solver’s predicted elevation matches the actual point of impact.
GOAST Truing Bar is engineered to help shooters ignore wind-induced horizontal dispersion and focus solely on vertical accuracy. For reliable truing, a group of approximately 1 MOA or better is recommended.
Key Benefits
- Designed specifically for Applied Ballistics Kestrel Cal MV and Cal DSF
- 95 cm width accommodates normal wind drift during validation
- 30 cm height demands precise vertical grouping
- Makes it easy to verify predicted elevation against actual bullet impact
- Ideal for refining muzzle velocity, BC, or DSF values
- Typical Cal DSF Distances
The exact truing distance depends on your rifle, ammunition, muzzle velocity and atmospheric conditions. Always follow the recommended Cal DSF distance displayed by your Kestrel. The values below are typical starting points.
Cartridge | Typical Cal DSF Distance | 30 cm Target Height |
|---|---|---|
.308 Winchester | ~900 m | 1.15 MOA |
6.5 Creedmoor | ~1,100 m | 0.94 MOA |
.300 Winchester Magnum | ~1,400 m | 0.74 MOA |
.338 Lapua Magnum | ~1,700 m | 0.61 MOA |
A vertical target size of approximately 1 MOA at common truing distances provides enough precision to expose ballistic solver errors while remaining practical to engage under real-world conditions.
Recommended Use
- Establish a verified 100 m zero.
- Confirm muzzle velocity with a chronograph whenever possible.
- Complete Cal MV before proceeding to Cal DSF.
- Mount the GOAST Truing Bar horizontally.
- Place the target at the Cal DSF distance recommended by your Kestrel (typically near the transonic region).
- Fire a consistent 1 MOA (or better) group.
- Evaluate the vertical center of the group against the predicted point of impact. Ignore horizontal dispersion caused by wind and adjust the ballistic solution until predicted and actual elevation coincide.
Specifications
- Dimensions: 30x95 cm
- Mounting: Horizontal
- Construction: Lightweight, self-healing, and reusable GOAST self-healing composite
